Meaning of Om Purnamadah Purnamidam, Purnat Purnamudachyate, Purnasya Purnamadaya, Purnameva Vashishyate

Satchidananda Parabrahma is Purna (complete). This world is born out of the infinite Parabrahma, thus this world too is Purna (complete). Even if we remove everything from what is complete, it still remains as Purna (complete).

Om Purnamadah Purnamidam, Purnat Purnamudachyate, Purnasya Purnamadaya, Purnameva Vashishyate, is a Shanti mantra from our Upanishads which describe the infinite eternal nature of Parahbrahma, the infinite and complete state of the universe. The spiritual meaning of this chanting is very significant, and this chanting from the time of our Vedas is reflected in the way how modern science realizes nature and universe. It explains the self-sustaining nature of the cosmos, the completeness of the universe. What is complete gives birth to something which by itself is complete. The universe is complete and from the universe is born our world, which again by itself is complete. If we take away fullness from fullness, fullness still remains, thereby incorporating the inexhaustible infiniteness of Parabrahma.

The essence of the Stotra

The universe is complete and indestructible, in-exhaustible, and eternal. With the destruction of something, something else is born, and thus the universe remains everlasting and constant. The universe is Swayambhu, born out of itself. It is the source of everything, it is omnipotent and omnipresent. Everything born out of this universe is complete and perfect.

The completeness of the universe exists in us too. We too are born out of this universe and what exits in the universe exists in us too. It is by this realization, we can achieve the realisation of God, transform ourselves from our mortal presence into Godliness. Every object of the universe and Nature has come from one common source, the Universal Consciousness of God.

The essence of this stotra – Om Purnamadah Purnamidam, is reflected in the various stotras from Hindu Puranas, Vedas, Upanishads and the ultimate decisions of Vedanta. Sarvam Khalvidam Brahma, Ekoham Bahushyam, Aham Brahmasmi. These teachings of our Hindu Shastras – Ramayana, Mahabharata, Puranas, Vedas, Upanishads, are reflected in the divine words of Dadaji Maharaj. The spiritual teachings and realizations of Dadaji Maharaj, in very simple words, reveal the ultimate knowledge of our Shastras.
